Yes. Any old thing with a piezo. Baked bean can with a piezo gaffa'd to it....

I connected a foot pedal (Roland KD-5) to DTX-multi 12 successfully. The trick is: do NOT connect the pedal to the "footsw" of multi 12. Instead, connect the pedal to a trigger, for example, PAD 13. And I assign a kick bass drum to pad 13 by pressing Voice button, so that I can use the pedal as the kick bass drum when I step on the pedal. (FYI, I tried to connect the pedal to footsw but it doesn't work in my case.)

Indeed - you connect triggers to trigger inputs.
